It would be easy for me to disprove this meme by simply listing a bevy of scholars who are exception critical thinkers and well respected in their various fields. I am also sure that if I was in conversation with this individual I could shut them down with facts showing that their ideas were based on a strawman and it was them who lacked critical thinking. But what would be the pointing these out to the original author if all I did was win an argument?
Instead when I see these memes that are so obviously shared out of ignorance or to rage bait Christians I take a completely different approach. I think to myself how can I demonstrate this isn’t true. The best way I have found is to be someone who loves the Lord with their entire mind. Before I share something I try to research the topic to the best of my abilities and ensure what I’m saying is true. When I see Christians sharing information that is false I try to point this out. I critic myself and those I am most likely to side with so that the face we show the world is thoughtful, full of facts and honest.
Yes, this meme is a complete strawman of the Christian position, but that does not mean there isn’t truth in it. We as Christians can do better to represent the facts well and demonstrate critical thinking skills. I say this because when I have taken these steps I have had atheists genuinely engage me in conversation and show real interest in what I have said and ultimately the Christian story.
